ALL THE WUXING PAINTINGS AVAILABLE AS A CHINESE NEW YEAR GIFT HAVE NOW BEEN TAKEN. Thanks to those who responded to my message, and apologies to anyone who missed out on a free painting. The last two series are available for sale, framed, at $1500 each.
These small ink paintings play with ways of abstracting nature. WuXing refers to the five interacting forces of Chinese cosmology. Basing each painting on just one of these forces—wood, fire, earth, metal or water—leaves me free to experiment with abstract texture and pattern, color and connotation. Their smallness is important to my process, not only because I work with small brushstrokes and richly pigmented inks, but because the “snapshot” metaphor is so liberating. All sixty paintings were exhibited at the Foundry Annex in Corvallis, Oregon, in May 2016.
Media: principally pigment-based watercolor ink on 100% rag acid-free paper; may also include acrylic ink, vinyl paint, graphite.
Size: 8.5–9 inches square with deckle edge.
