Ink and watercolor drawings over relief prints. The impressions are made from a metal typeface—an optical character recognition (OCR) font from American Typefounders Company. I enjoy the irony of a typeface that was designed to be read by computers having been cast in metal—a technology eventually rendered obsolete by computers. But the degree of conceptual abstraction in their design makes them very suitable for my purposes. After printing the OCR typeface, the prints are drawn over, creating unique monoprints. The drawing tools included brushes, watercolor graphite pencils and watercolor crayon. This series was created with specific places in mind, all in the Pacific Northwest. All drawings are 15 x 22 inches, on white archival printmaking paper. To purchase, contact Cullom Gallery in Seattle. www.cullomgallery.com
