New work 2018: Elwha Scrolls

The silk scrolls below, missing the paintings that were once mounted on them, were found at a thrift store by artist friend Linda Davidson and gifted to me. I painted them with my customary media: ink, acrylic, flashe, and graphite. They are inspired by the story of the removal of the two dams on the Elwha River and release of the water behind them, the beach-building by the river as it carried sediment to its mouth in the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and the return of the salmon upriver to spawn.
