Back in the early 1970s I came across a catalog by James Cahill of an exhibition shown in the Asia House Gallery in 1967. It turned out to be quite influential for me. Recently I found a copy and was able to revisit Fantastics and Eccentrics in Chinese Painting. I return frequently to making my own fantastic and eccentric landscapes with brush and ink, sometimes combined with printmaking. These works are of imagined places, but the spatial repertoire comes from travel, hiking and sketching.
